Who is eligible to apply for on-campus accommodation? The main target group is Freshmen (newly admitted undergraduate students). Accommodation for continuing students is extremely limited. International Students are, by policy, usually required to be accommodated on campus in designated facilities.
Is room allocation guaranteed for all fresh students? No. KNUST’s on-campus residential capacity is limited, especially for Ghanaian students. Accommodation is allocated on a highly competitive basis using the online system once the portal opens. Most continuing students and many freshmen reside in approved private hostels off-campus.
What is the difference between KNUST Halls and KNUST-owned hostels? KNUST Halls (like Unity, Independence, Republic, Queen Elizabeth II, Africa, University) are directly administered by the University and follow Hall Council policies. There are also KNUST-owned hostels (KOHS) managed by the university, for which a separate booking portal may exist.
When does the accommodation application portal open? The portal opens shortly after admission lists are released. Students are strongly advised to monitor the official KNUST website and the Dean of Students Affairs (DOSA) announcements for the exact date and time, as rooms are taken very quickly.
Should I pay academic fees or residential fees first? Freshmen must pay their academic fees in full before they are allowed to apply for or reserve accommodation. You should make a reservation for accommodation (get a reservation code) before making the payment for the residential fee. Do not pay the academic and residential fees together.
How does the room selection work on the portal? The process is typically:
- Login and click “Make a reservation” to view available accommodation.
- Accept the accommodation instructions.
- Select an available hall/hostel to get a Reservation Code.
- Log out and proceed to the bank to pay the residential fees using the Reservation Code.
- After payment, log back into the system to select a specific room within your reserved hall/hostel.
How do I confirm my room choice in the system? When selecting a specific room:
- Choose a block within the hall/hostel.
- Observe the color-coded Legend to see which rooms are full or available.
- Click on an available room number and then click “Confirm Choice of Room.”
- After final confirmation, click “PRINT SHEET” to obtain a printed copy of your room selection.
What is the final, vital step after selecting a room? You must click “Logout” at the top right corner of the page. Failure to properly log out of the system may annul your choice of room.
What documents should I present to the Hall Master/Warden upon arrival? You must present:
- Your printed Room Allocation Slip/Sheet.
- The signed Declaration Form (endorsed by yourself and your parent/guardian).
Can I transfer my bed-space to another student? No. Transferring ownership/occupancy of the allocated bed-space to any other student or person (for monetary gain or humanitarian reasons) is strictly PROHIBITED and will result in penalties prescribed by the students’ guide.
