UMaT Undergraduate Courses- Diploma Programmes Entry Requirements
- Diploma in General Drilling (Fee paying Programme)
An applicant must satisfy any of the following:
- WASSCE Certificate:
- Passes (A1-D7) in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
- Must posses a minimum of C6 in the following subjects: Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or Metal Work or Technical Drawing or Applied Electricity or Applied Electronics.
- SSSCE Certificate:
- Six (6) Passes (A-D) in all subjects which are English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry or Metal Work or Technical Drawing or Applied Electricity or Applied Electronics.
- GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Certificates:
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Certificate credits in five (5) subjects including English language, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics; or General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level passes in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.
- City and Guilds
- City and Guilds of London Institute Part III Certificate or its equivalent in either Mechanical, Automobile, or Electrical Engineering.
- Holders of Certificate of Proficiency in General Drilling (one-year course)
- from University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa
- or a recognised institution are eligible.
- Mature Applicants:
- Applicants should be at least 25 years of age and should have SSSCE/WASSCE or GCE O’ Level Certificate with credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject with experience in the relevant area of study. Applicants must pass a written examination and /or an interview.
- Mature applicants must also possess birth certificates which are, at least, five (5) years old after the date of issue.
International applicants: with equivalent certificates and grades are eligible.

- Only applicants to the Geomatic Engineering programme can substitute Chemistry with Geography.
- Applicants to BSc Land Administration and Information Systems programme should have Credits in any three (3) Business or Science electives or General Arts electives from among these subjects (Economics, Geography, Mathematics, ICT, History and Government) in addition to the above core subjects.
- Applicants to BSc Spatial Planning programme should have Credits in any three (3) Business or Science electives or General Arts electives from among these subjects (Economics, Geography, Mathematics, ICT, History and Government) in addition to the above core subjects.

- BSc ECONOMICS AND INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATION
The entry requirement for the above programmes are as follows:
Core Subjects: Credits in 3 Core Subjects English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies.
Elective Subjects:
- Any 3 General Science Elective Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, ICT and Elective Mathematics.
- General Arts:Economics and/or Elective Mathematics plus any one (1) or two (2) of the following: Geography, History, Christian Religious Studies, French, Literature in English, Government, ICT and Ghanaian Language
- Any 3 Business Elective Subjects: Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Costing, ICT and Elective Mathematics.
GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates Applicants
GCE Ordinary Level Certificate applicants or its equivalent must have credits in 5 subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and GCE Advanced Level Certificate with passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Mature Applicants
Applicants should be at least 25 years of age and should have WASSCE/SSSCE or GCE O’ Level Certificate with credits in 5 subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject with experience in the relevant area of study. Applicants must pass a written examination and /or an interview. Mature applicants must also possess birth certificates which are, at least, five (5) years old after the date of issue.
International Applicants
Applicants with equivalent qualifications will be considered for admission.
Specially Sponsored or Fee-paying Applicants
Applicants who satisfy the University’s minimum entry requirement of aggregate 36 but cannot meet the competitive departmental cut-off aggregate can apply for admission provided they have sponsorship to cover their full fees.
Is UMaT 2025 admission out?
The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) typically sends undergraduate admission notifications between the application portal’s closure and the day before Matriculation. This is usually between March and June for the academic year that begins in August or September. Thus University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) admission forms for 2025/2026 academic year will be out for sale by March 2025.
